1. It makes no sense to read ALL emails
Most of the annoying emails I get are just confirmations. Sometimes you sign a new website or service up for what (from which you cannot expect emails) and sometimes known addresses that bombard your inbox. For the well-known I’ve created a filter that automatically marks these emails being read and you can even add labels like ‘autoread’ to keep your inbox neat.
2. Ever heard of Boolean?
3. Filters + labels go hand in hand
Adding labels to sorted emails will give you a much better visual idea of what is happening with all of these emails arriving in your inbox. The important mails with the above filters can have a more noticeable red (or similar) colored label, while the unimportant ones can be left alone.
4. Shining stars
Adding stars to the most important emails that need your immediate attention is a great way to keep priorities in order. The easiest way to do this is to open the mail that is really important to you and select the Filter messages like this option.
On the next well-known Gmail filter screen, select Create filter with this search and on the next screen, select the checkbox for Star it. You can even check the box below for Filter also apply to x matching conversations, which will automatically mark existing conversations with the selected filter.
5. Bulk Up
Well, not literally! Gmail allows you to create bulk filters for the same action. So, for the same action above, if you already know people’s email addresses (or they are part of your contact list) then go ahead and create a filter with the Boolean OR and the same rule can be applied to all of their email mails from now on.
Of course, feel free to check these boxes for Has attachment and Do not include chats for further separation.
Labeling bulk mail IDs also works fine and is a good idea if you want to separate your work and play mails with different color labels.
