Open the Play Store
The Google Play Store is the equivalent of the App Store on iOS. Here you download all your apps, movies, music and books to your device. It has undergone a lot of changes over the years and each version makes the store a little easier to manage and browse. If you haven’t used the Play Store much, you might not know how to open it. Normally, new Android devices will have a Play Store icon on it home screen of your device, but you may also need to open your app drawer to get to the icon. On my tablet, the icon is in the dock of my device. Just tap the icon and the Play Store will open on the front page.
View your app updates
Most apps on Android use a sliding menu to navigate the app, and we’ll open this menu to view your personal apps on the platform. To view this menu, slide your finger from the left side of your screen to the right or tap the three line icon in the top left corner of your screen. This will open the menu so you can choose from a variety of options.
Select ‘My apps and games’. This should be the second menu selection from the top. This will take you to a page titled “My Apps & Games” with several options including Updates, Installed, Library and, if applicable, Beta. The Updates tab, which should already be selected when you enter this menu, lists the apps for which updates are pending installation. The Installed tab lists every installed app on your device. The Library tab lists all the apps in your library that you don’t have installed on your current device, but have in the past. Finally, if there is Beta, it will list all the beta apps you are currently using. If you’re using a new Android device, you probably aren’t using beta applications.
For our purposes, we’ll stick to the Updates tab, although it’s good to know what the other tabs are doing. The Play Store lists all available updates for your device. You will notice that every app has a button besides that makes for a unique update. There also is a button at the top of the page that says ‘Update all’. Usually this is it button you want to use to update your apps. Press on the button start the update process, downloading and installing each update one by one from the list. Once the apps are updated, the page will show you a list of “recently updated” apps. Update apps automatically
Most users will likely choose to allow the device to update applications automatically, rather than having to do it manually. Fortunately, it is really easy to enable this, if not already. Once you’ve let apps update automatically, you’ll usually see app updates rolling out once a day or two. If you’d rather have full control over when and which apps are updated, you can leave this setting disabled (or turn it off if it’s already enabled). Finally, you can also enable or disable automatic updates on a per-app basis by visiting the app’s Play Store listing and tapping the three-dot menu in the top right corner and ‘Auto-Update App. “
