How to unlock a computer without the password – Guide
If your computer or laptop doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor or camera compatible with Windows Hello, you’re probably still logging in with a password or PIN. Because many users have been forced to use a Microsoft login instead of a location, it’s easier to lose your most recent password because you’re likely to change it more often. However, the company now allows you to completely forget your password and use its authenticator app (along with other options) to avoid having to remember anything. Of course, this won’t help you now, but it’s something you should think about doing once you’ve regained access to your account. In any case, all is not lost. Before thinking about reinstalling Windows, there are a few things you can try. The purpose of this lesson is to help you regain access to a personal computer that has been locked. Obviously, we cannot tolerate using these methods to gain access to someone else’s device.
Reset your Windows 10 password
Microsoft account
If you use a Microsoft account to log into Windows 10, you’re in luck. A forgotten password is easily resolved by going to the Recover Your Account page and following the instructions to reset your password. Once that’s done, you can use the new password you just entered to log in to Windows.
local account
There can still be hope, even if you are using a local account on your laptop or PC. Your computer must be running Windows 10 version 1803 or later. This is quite old, so there’s a good chance you have this version (or newer). However, you will need to define up security questions to ask in case you forget your password. So, if you’ve added security questions, you should see a Reset Password link on the Windows 10 login screen. If you use a PIN instead of a password, you can choose to enter a password. If you have also forgotten your password, you will need to reset it first. To do this, select Reset password on the login screen (once you have chosen password as login form). You should now see the security questions you set up when you define up your local Windows 10 account. Answer them correctly and you will be able to enter a new password. Now you can log into Windows and choose a new PIN code (if you forgot it too) by going to Start > Settings > Accounts > Login Options > Windows Hello PIN > Change. If you don’t see any security questions, you’re out of luck. You didn’t define them either up or your computer is running an earlier version of Windows 10. You cannot reset a forgotten password, and the only option open to you is to completely reset Windows. This will erase your documents, photos, music, programs, applications and settings. Windows 10 will go back to how it was when you bought the laptop or PC. This is probably very bad news if you don’t have a backup of important files, so it’s worth trying every password (and variations of them) you’ve used before taking this core approach. If you find yourself in this unenviable position, here it is how to reset Windows 10:
Use a password reset utility
If all else fails, you can download a utility that claims to crack or ignore your Windows password. Again, we cannot tolerate using these for anything other than to retrieve your own files on your own computer. You’ll find them easily if you search online for ‘Windows password reset tool’, and one worth trying is simply called NTpasswd.
