Guide: How to take Full Page Screenshots in Chrome and iOS
There have been times in my life when I needed to capture a web page – and I mean it all. Sometimes it was for archival reasons or when I was trying to collect up the curriculum for my programming class. Sometimes it was to share a page with someone. You can have your own reasons for capturing an entire web page in image form, with archives at the top of the list. If you’re a designer or if you need to send feedback about a website to a designer, you want to capture more than what’s on the screen. And you may also want to annotate the screenshot. You can of course use an app like Skitch, but who wants to launch a whole new app. Below we’ll talk about full web page screenshot tools for Chrome and iOS (Ashish has already covered an Android tool). We also look at websites that generate an image of a web page for you – you don’t need to install any additional software.
1. Full page screen recording for Chrome
I’ve been using Full Page Screen Capture for a few months now. It worked out really well for me. It is a simple extension with no options. All you need to do is make sure the page is set to the default view size (not zoomed in or out) and click on the extension icon. It will do its thing and the image will be downloaded to the default folder. It doesn’t actually get much easier.
2. Awesome Screenshot extension for Chrome
Awesome Screenshot came under pressure last year due to user privacy. The extension has since removed the adware and its creators have corrected their mistakes. Secondary option: If you don’t feel comfortable using the extension, check out the alternative – Blipshot. Awesome Screenshot is popular for a reason – it does a lot, and it does it well. The extension allows you to take screenshots of the web page (yes, full web page screenshots are supported), annotate them, and then share it via a unique link.
3. Awesome Screenshot extension for Safari on iOS 8
Much browsing nowadays takes place on mobile phonesSo it makes sense that you want to capture web pages as they appear on an iPhone or iPad. iOS 8 now supports extensions. Awesome Screenshot extension allows you to capture an entire webpage directly from Safari and annotate and share / save it too. You don’t have to switch to Skitch or any other app.
4. Screen recording website
Screen Capture is a simple website by tech blogger extraordinaire Amit Agarwal. All you need to do is paste the link to the webpage and then click Capture Screenshot. The website will do its thing and you will have downloaded a full page PNG file. The great thing about the Screen Capture website is that it works everywhere – desktop, iOS, and even Android.
Bonus: Download web pages as PDFs
Downloading the web page as a PDF is a good alternative to simply downloading it as an image. If you’re talking about a really long web page, it will work much better this way. In Chrome, try the Save as PDF extension, which is features webpage with one click to download as pdf. You can also try Pdfcrowd and HTML to PDF websites.
