How to Sideload Apps on iOS outside App Store – Guide
As the name suggests, it is an alternative app store for iOS devices. Made by Riley Testut, it’s the easiest and safest way to get apps on your iPad or iPhone. It doesn’t rely on company certificates, which Apple clamped down on, and instead leverages a feature Apple has introduced that lets you install up to three apps for free using your Apple ID. initially requires an Apple ID and password, but you can create a disposable account if you don’t trust it. The developer says it’s never sent to a third-party server, just sent directly to Apple for authentication and then securely stored on the device’s keyring so nothing else can retrieve it. However, you have the right to still feel uncomfortable putting your primary Apple ID in the app, which is why you can create a disposable account for the purposes of this tutorial. then signs the app with your Apple ID to allow the app to run. You should trust your developer certificate in your device settings, but if you do, any apps you install through AltStore will work for seven days. Apple introduced several limitations to make the process as difficult as possible, but the developer managed to get around these limitations.
AltServerName
The AltStore app that we will install on our iOS device requires a PC equivalent called AltServer. This will allow the computer to seamlessly update our Apple ID and ensure the apps remain valid on the iPhone. You can easily download and install AltServer (Free) here.
A Windows or Mac machine
The method we will detail below currently only supports macOS and Windows machines, so make sure you install AltServer on one of these platforms before proceeding.
iTunes and iCloud
Part of the method of sideloading apps on iPhone requires Apple ID and PC authentication through iTunes (Free, Windows) and iCloud (Free, Windows). Make sure you only download and install them using the links above as we will not be using the Microsoft Store version of these apps.
An Apple ID
As mentioned above, you will need to use an Apple ID to authenticate the connection made between your devices and to update apps. It is to ensure that apps are not removed from your device. If you have questions about using your existing Apple ID, create a new dummy ID and use it. If you choose to create a mannequin, please log in using the new Apple ID on your iOS device, iTunes and iCloud before following the steps below.
A lightning cable
The initial connection between your iOS device and iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC will require a lighting cable (either Lightning to USB-A or Lightning to USB-C). You can use the cable that comes with your iPhone.
