How to pay on the CDMX Metrobús from your cell phone? – Guide
This Thursday, the Government of Mexico City (CDMX) announced that you can now pay in the capital Metrobús without contacting your cell phone phone . This new option is enabled on lines 1, 2 and 3 for users who have a digital wallet. Now, they can access this transport through bank cards, CoDi and devices such as smartphones and smartwatches. In a note, Andrés Lajuos, CDMX’s Mobility Secretary, and Roberto Capuano, Metrobús’ General Director, explained that users can now recharge their Integrated Mobility Card (IM) with a debit or credit card from their digital wallet. Last March, authorities in the capital announced the renovation of the toll and toll machines at the 122 stations that make up lines 1, 2 and 3 of the CDMX Metrobús. This system, which integrates technology from VISA and Getnet, Banco Santander’s payment system, is already a reality.
How do electronic payments work on CDMX Metrobús?
As of this September 30th, there are two ways to pay for the ticket in the transport system through electronic payment. The new MI card top up machines allow the use of VISA credit or debit cards. To do this, simply place your IM card in the top up machine and the system will give you three payment options: cash, bank or CoDi. If you chose ‘banking’, you must insert your plastic card like at an ATM or payment terminal, choose the amount you want to top up, confirm on the screen and authorize the transaction with your PIN or electronic signature. If you choose to pay with CoDi, a QR code will appear on the screen which you must scan with your mobile phone phone. You can then finalize the payment by authorizing it with your PIN, fingerprint or token. The transaction will be carried out immediately and only applies to refills of at least $20 pesos up up to a maximum of $120 pesos. The contactless device allows for direct and contactless payment. For this, you must have an electronic wallet and a device with NFC technology, which comes in most of the latest smartphone and smartwatch models. Just bring them close to the machine’s reader or turnstile and you’ll go without using the MI card. In this case, a charge of $12 pesos will be notified, as two trips will be included. However, if the transport is not used twice, the charge will be for one ticket only. The Ministry of Mobility in the capital indicated that payment by bank card would generate a 2% commission for Metrobus, which would not affect users. If direct payment is made using contactless, CoDi or eWallet applications, there will be no commission. The CDMX government statement makes it clear that they only accept VISA card payments without specifying which banks. It also does not specify which e-wallets are allowed, although videos of how the new payment system works through the Apple Pay digital wallet circulate on social networks. In fact, Roberto Capuano himself, General Director of CDMX Metrobús, posted a ‘step by step’ on his twitter account tutorial about how to use the new electronic payment systems.
