Guide: How to Download Google Photos Albums to PC
Google Photos is more than just a gallery app. It is an excellent photo backup service that does neat edits from time to time as well. Plus, you can always go back in time to review your old memories. And the great thing is that you can search by date, place and text. Over time, Google Photos collects thousands and thousands of these memories. So, how do you download all these photos to your computer (or phone) instantly? For starters, selective downloading is out of the question if you want to download more than a dozen photos. The manual process of downloading the images is too much of a hassle. Then there is the inconvenience of extracting the files and rearranging the photos according to your preference. More importantly, there is no support for third-party downloaders or to resume downloads later. In short, it is a time consuming and unpredictable affair. So, what do you do in such situations? Well, what about the idea of downloading all your Google photos, albums and shared albums in one place on your computer? Not only do you get everything under one roof, but they also don’t take with you up space on your system. Sounds exciting? Let’s start.
How to Download all of your Google Photo Albums
We will take the help of a third party tool called RaiDrive. This makes a network drive of the Google Photos storage on your PC and in this way lets you explore all your files and folders from the convenience of Windows Explorer. Yes, your space has been saved because it does not sync the entire folder / drive to your PC. Download RaiDrive Step 1: After installing the tool, click the Add icon at the top. That gives you the option to choose which Google service to connect to.
S.point 2: Then select Google Photos in the box. At this point the app gives you the option to choose the station name. Although the default name is Z, you can choose a letter of your choice from the drop-down list.
S.point 3: Now assign a name to the drive. Since I have connected a number of other network drives, I can distinguish between all stations.
Once you have verified all settings (reconnect at login, proxy), press OK buttonYou will be prompted for the Google account information and the required permissions.
S.point 4: After the app has verified your credentials, your Google Photos account will be linked to RaiDrive.
At first, you won’t see much progress as the tool indexes the content first and then pulls it to your PC.
The best part about the RaiDrive Network Drive is that all your photos are neatly arranged in folders that you can easily browse.
In addition, the Share folder contains all the photos and albums that you have shared with your friends and buddies. Pro Tip: Connecting Google Photos is just the tip of the iceberg. You can also connect RaiDrive to your Google Drive to view all your documents, files and folders on your desktop.
Things to keep in mind
1. Read-only access
RaiDrive provides read-only access to Google Photos. That means you can view all of your photos and save them to a physical location on your computer if you wish. However, you cannot upload to Google Photos directly from your PC.
To do that, you need to upload files through your phone or via the Synchronization and Backup toolup.
2. Indexing can take some time
Depending on the number of photos and your internet connection, it may take a while to index the contents of Google Photos.
3. Photo quality
Again, the quality of the photos is as you chose during the backupup.
If you had selected Original quality, the same would be displayed here.
4. Connected forever
To see and access all the photos, your PC must of course remain connected to the Internet.
5. Check the bandwidth usage
To check bandwidth usage, right-click on an album and see the size of the disk, just like you would in Windows Explorer. Note: It takes a while to calculate the full size of the folder. So you will have to be patient with that.
How to Unmount a network drive from Google Photos
If one day you decide you don’t need a network drive, you can disconnect it in a few steps. Open the RaiDrive and click on the small stop buttonAfter that, the drive will disappear from your PC immediately.
However, the RaiDrive can access your photos. To remove it, go to your Google account and select Security from the left pane. Go to Google account Then scroll down and click on the panel that says Manage Third-Party Access.
That will give you a list of all the tools and services that can access your Google account.
All you need to do is select RaiDrive and Remove Access. That is it.
Download photos like a pro
This way you can access and download all your Google Photos albums at once to your desktop and PC. The best part is that the process is simple and doesn’t take much time. Most importantly, it doesn’t eat up unnecessary space on your PC.
