1. Update your Windows 10

Windows 10 works quite well in updating your computer. If you have set the update settings to the default, updates will be installed automatically when you are not running on your computer. Updates bundle many bug fixes and performance improvements. To check for new updates and install them immediately, press Windows Key + I to open Settings and click Update & Security.

3. Complete shutdown

When you turn off your PC, it does not turn off completely. Microsoft has a hidden one feature that will help you perform a full shutdown with the system shutting down all apps and services completely. To do this, press the Ctrl + X keys on your keyboard and then U twice.

You can also use the command prompt to initiate a full shutdown. Search for Command Prompt, right click and click Run as admin. Now type the command below: exit / s / f / t 0

4. Dropbox problem

5. Problem with AMD graphics driver

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to start Task Manager. Look for Windows Explorer in the Process tab. Once you find it, right click on it and select Restart.

Note that doing this will close all open windows. So save everything before restarting Windows Explorer.

8. Application Identity Service

This particular service is responsible for deciding which Windows apps to run and which ones not. While it usually works flawlessly, you may have to run it once to check if it killed the Start Menu. Press Windows key + R to open the Run prompt and type services.msc before pressing Enter.

Locate Application Identity, right-click on it and select Start.

Now restart your computer and check if this solves the problem.

9. Run SFC and DISM Scan

These two commands can solve so many problems that Microsoft often suggests running them. Both commands instruct Windows to scan deeply for damaged files and repair them automatically. Search for CMD in Windows and right click on it to choose Run as administrator. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + X and start from there. If you cannot find the command prompt, start PowerShell as admin (has a blue background).

Type these commands and press Enter after each command. sfc / scannowdism / online / cleanup image / restorehealth

I recommend that you reboot your system before checking if the start menu is functioning normally.

10. Edit the registry

If you still haven’t solved the problem, it’s a bit more serious than we thought. But don’t worry, we have more solutions. We can manually edit the associated registry file to see if that fixes the problem. Press Windows key + R to open the Run prompt and type regedit before pressing Enter.

11. Rogue app

That’s a known issue so we’ll have to reinstall the Windows app. There is an easy way to do it. Press Windows Key + X and select PowerShell (Admin) to start it.

Once it opens, type the following command and hit Enter. Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$ ($ _. InstallLocation) AppXManifest.xml”} You will see a lot of movement on the screen with many processes running.
