Guide: Access Chrome Bookmarks From Anywhere On Web: Guide
If you’re anything like me, your top and most visited sites are in Chrome’s bookmarks bar. Some people even use it to bookmark articles they want to view later. Or when they investigate things. While a service like Pocket is better for that, Chrome Bookmarks are there, easy to use. The problem is that Chrome bookmarks are only synced with other devices running the Chrome browser. So if like me you use Safari to read on the iPad (because it’s much better) then you’re out of luck when it comes to syncing bookmarks. Yes, you can do that thing by exporting Chrome bookmarks and adding them to Safari on OS X, which in turn syncs with your iPad if iCloud sync is on. But that’s a one-off thing. It is not updated live. Thanks to the Bookmarks Anywhere service, you can now access your Chrome bookmarks from any device and browser.
How to Use bookmarks everywhere
This is how you do it. Go to the Chrome browser where your bookmarks are and download the Bookmarks Anywhere extension. Now sign in with the same Google ID you use in the Chrome browser.
After you sign in, all Chrome bookmarks and folders will be synced with Bookmarks Anywhere’s servers.
How to Access bookmarks from anywhere
Once synced, go to bookmarksany.com and from it button sign in in the top left corner with the Google account you used to sync the bookmarks.
Once you’ve signed up, all your bookmarks will be available there on that web page.
This can be any device. Safari on iPad, Edge on Windows 10, everything. As long as you can access this website, your Chrome bookmarks will be with you.
And as I mentioned above this will be updated live. So when you create a new bookmark in Chrome, it will be updated to Bookmark Anywhere’s servers and displayed up on the website. And on the website you can also manually add new bookmarks if you want.
Get back the old Chrome bookmarks manager: The fancy new visual bookmarking tool in Chrome isn’t that great. Here is how to get the old one back.
Alternative – Export bookmarks manually
Although this is not really a sync feature, it is possible to send bookmarks from Chrome to Safari on iOS. On the Mac, all you need to do is import Chrome bookmarks to Safari (see how to do that here) then go to iCloud Settings and make sure Safari is turned on. On Windows, you need to download the iCloud desktop sync app and select Chrome in the Bookmarks section. Apple also has a Chrome extension built specifically for Windows 7 and 8 users to do the exact same thing. But this is of course only a one-time export. New bookmarks and changes are not automatically synchronized.
